I offer opportunities for qualified students at various grade levels to participate in writing competitions and earn merit scholarship awards. In addition, I encourage accomplished students to submit their work to publishers. Neither is an easy process, but it is an excellent opportunity for students to set goals, take pride in their work and receive honorable recognition for their essays. Many of my students have achieved this level of success.
This is also a chance for high school students to embellish their college applications by making theirs stand out from other applicants. As you are aware, there are many opportunities to compete in math and science. Highly competitive colleges see these accomplishments frequently on students’ applications. However, they don’t see these same accomplishments in English. I can offer this challenge to students who want to make their applications stand out from others with their competitive writing.
