The San Diego Writing Tutor is offering a challenging Summer Writing Course for English Honors students only. This course is for students who want to prepare now to learn and improve their analytical writing skills and grades.
Analytical Writing/Classic Literature
This academic course focuses on developing students’ analytical writing skills. Analytical writing is the most challenging writing for students, and it is highly tested in middle school through high school.
The curriculum includes reading excerpts from classical literature (non-fiction, fiction, and poetry) from many renowned authors such as Edgar Allen Poe, Charles Dickens, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Shakespeare, and Emily Dickinson.
Throughout this course, students will develop their annotating skills. They will also become well-versed in the usage of figurative language. Students will learn and consistently practice all the techniques required to succeed with their writing, which will improve their confidence and grades.
Course Schedule
This highly popular and challenging academic virtual course is two weeks long and will be held Monday through Friday for two hours each day. This course is offered by a Credentialed English teacher with over 20 years of experience, and it is aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Each of the two sessions will consist of new material so students can register for both sessions in preparation for the new school year this fall.

Please be advised that this advanced English course is not a camp. Students will need to submit a current writing sample before registering. The size of the class will be limited to a small group of students to maximize their learning.
